The standard penetration test from the hammer to the pile: record each test blow by blow (or import CSV and AGS4), apply the energy, rod, borehole and sampler corrections, normalise to (N1)60 and (N1)60cs, and read off friction angle, density, undrained strength, stiffness and shear-wave velocity by several correlations. Run the soil laboratory — grading, Atterberg limits, compaction, CBR, shear box, triaxial, oedometer, permeability, shrink–swell and aggressivity — and let the results feed the interpretation. Then check liquefaction (NCEER, Idriss & Boulanger 2014, Cetin 2004) with settlement, LPI, LSN, residual strength and lateral spread, design footings with settlement and consolidation, and design piles of every type — precast, prestressed spun hollow-core, steel H and tube, timber, bored, CFA, screw and micropiles — to AS 2159, with groups, lateral load, downdrag and a driving set. Every chart exports; the report goes to PDF and Excel.
SPT correlations are approximate and the sample site is synthetic. Confirm design parameters with laboratory testing, local experience and pile load tests.
What the SPT studio does
Enter SPT field records blow by blow — seating drive, two test drives and refusal — or import CSV and AGS4. The studio applies the energy, borehole, rod-length and sampler corrections, normalises to (N1)60 by Liao & Whitman, Kayen, Skempton or the iterative Idriss & Boulanger method, adds the fines correction and draws an AS 1726 borehole log and a section through every borehole.
A full soil laboratory sits beside the field data: moisture content, density, particle density, sieve and hydrometer grading, Atterberg limits by Casagrande or cone, USCS / AS 1726 classification, compaction, CBR, direct shear, triaxial UU and CU with Mohr circles, unconfined compression, oedometer consolidation (Cc, Cr, σ′p, cv by Taylor), permeability, shrink–swell index with AS 2870 site class and AS 2159 aggressivity. Laboratory values feed the interpretation, liquefaction screening and settlement.
Liquefaction follows NCEER (Youd et al. 2001), Idriss & Boulanger (2014) and Cetin et al. (2004) with cyclic softening of clays, susceptibility screening, settlement, LPI, LSN, LDI, residual strength and lateral spread. Design covers footings (bearing, Burland & Burbidge, Schmertmann, consolidation with time) and pile capacity by Meyerhof, Décourt, Aoki–Velloso, FHWA and the static method for precast, prestressed spun hollow-core, steel H and tube, timber, bored, CFA, screw and micropiles, with the AS 2159 reduction factor, settlement, groups, lateral load, downdrag and driving formulae.
