Design with cellular confinement and geosynthetics, from the haul road to the riverbank. Size a geocell-stabilised base over soft ground (Giroud & Han, AASHTO 93) and the mattress under a crane pad; hold topsoil on a steep slope with tendons and stakes; line a channel against its design shear; armour an eroding river bank against current and waves with a geobag toe apron; build a stepped geocell gravity wall; find the shape and fabric tension of a pumped geotextile sand tube and check a tube dike or breakwater; reinforce a steep slope with geogrid; and choose a filter geotextile. Every analysis has schematic diagrams and charts, the Drawings tab sets out conceptual A3 sheets with details, and the Construction tab animates the installation step by step.
Preliminary engineering tool with generic product properties. Use the tested values of the product you specify (cell modulus, junction strength, permissible shear, fabric strength and reduction factors) and check designs against your local standards.
What the geocell & geosynthetics studio does
Geocell load support compares unreinforced, geotextile, geogrid and geocell-stabilised bases over soft ground by Giroud & Han (2004), with the paved-road benefit through an AASHTO 93 layer coefficient ratio and the bearing of a geocell mattress under a footing or outrigger from the cell's hoop confinement. Slope protection checks the infilled cells on the slope by Koerner & Soong's veneer method and sizes the tendons and stakes; geocell gravity walls are checked for sliding, overturning, bearing and interlayer shear.
Water works size channel linings against HEC-15 bed and side shear with a comparison of permissible shear for grass, mats, geocells, riprap, geobags, blocks and concrete-filled cells; river-bank revetments are checked for current (Isbash, HEC-11) and waves (Pilarczyk) with a geobag falling apron for toe scour. Geotextile sand tubes are solved as a membrane under pumping pressure for their height, width and circumferential and axial tension against the factored fabric and seam strength, and tube dikes and breakwaters for sliding, overturning, bearing and wave stability.
Geogrid-reinforced slopes are searched with Bishop circles including the reinforcement, and the filter geotextile is selected by the FHWA retention, permeability and clogging criteria. Each technique has schematic diagrams, conceptual A3 drawings with details and an animated construction sequence; products are described generically so any system with the stated properties applies.
