Design, analyse, draw and plan the construction of berthing structures — open piled wharves, T-head jetties with approach trestles and dolphins, independent breasting and mooring dolphins, floating pontoons, timber jetties, gravity blockwork quays and anchored sheet-pile walls — to Australian (AS 4997, AS/NZS 1170, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 2159) or British practice (BS 6349 with the Eurocodes). Tides, surge and sea-level rise, design waves and currents, PIANC berthing energy and fenders, mooring and bollards, piles and toe levels, deck, durability and cathodic protection feed a numbered A3 drawing set, a 3D model with the design vessel alongside, a staged execution plan with hold points and ITP, quantities, cost and programme.
Preliminary design for feasibility and education. Metocean, geotechnical and vessel data are typical defaults — replace them with site-specific data and have the design checked by a qualified maritime engineer. The sample project is synthetic.
What the jetty & wharf studio does
Seven berthing structures are covered: an open piled marginal wharf with a suspended reinforced-concrete deck, a T-head jetty with an approach trestle, berthing head and breasting and mooring dolphins, independent dolphins joined by catwalks, a floating pontoon on guide piles with a gangway, a timber jetty for small craft, a gravity blockwork quay wall and an anchored sheet-pile quay wall. Switch between Australian practice (AS 4997, AS/NZS 1170, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 2159, AS 3962) and British practice (BS 6349 parts 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 2 and 4 with the BS EN Eurocodes).
The design runs from site to structure: tide levels, storm surge and sea-level rise; a fetch-limited design wave with Morison forces on the piles; the design vessel from PIANC dimensions; berthing energy by the kinetic method with Brolsma velocities, eccentricity, added mass and abnormal factors; cone fender selection with frontal panel and hull pressure; wind and current mooring forces and bollard size; deck slab and headstock design; pile actions for every load combination by the equivalent-cantilever method, corrosion allowance, section and buckling capacity, and geotechnical capacity and toe level; gravity-wall stability; free-earth-support sheet piles and tie rods; pontoon freeboard and stability; durability cover and cathodic-protection anodes.
Each design produces a numbered A3 drawing set (general arrangement, elevation with water levels and strata, cross-sections, pile schedule, corrosion zones, fender, bollard, connection and reinforcement details, construction sequence and programme), an orbitable 3D model with the vessel alongside, an execution plan with hold points, ITP, safety and environmental controls, a bill of quantities and an Excel workbook with live formulas.
