Car park layout (AS/NZS 2890.1) and accessible spaces calculator
Rectangular open-air car park laid out with 90° bays in double-loaded modules (bay + aisle + bay) across the site, with circulation aisles at each end. The user class sets bay width, length and aisle width; the tool counts the modules and spaces, replaces the required number of bays with accessible spaces and shared areas, and reports the area per space.
Standard: AS/NZS 2890.1 Fig 2.2 bay and aisle dimensions by user class (90° parking) · AS/NZS 2890.6 accessible spaces (2.4 m + 2.4 m shared area) · NCC D3.5 ratios

| Input | Value | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Site length (along the bays) | 80 | m |
| Site width (across the modules) | 50 | m |
| User class | 3: short-term, shops (2.6 m) | |
| End circulation aisle width | 6.2 | m |
| Accessible spaces: 1 per | 50 | spaces |
| Landscape / footpath allowance on the perimeter | 1.5 | m |
Worked example — results
| Result | Value | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Bay width × length / aisle | 2.6 × 5.4 / 6.2 | m |
| Module depth (bay + aisle + bay) | 17.0 | m |
| Double-loaded modules | 2 + 1 single-loaded row | |
| Bays per row | 24 | |
| Total bays | 120 | |
| Accessible spaces (each with a shared area) | 3 | |
| Standard spaces | 117 | |
| Site area per space | 33.3 | m² |
- ✓ At least one module fits
- ✓ Efficiency ≤ 35 m² per space (typical at-grade 25–35) — 33.3 m²
Method, formulas and assumptions
- 90° parking dimensions (AS/NZS 2890.1 Fig 2.2): class 1 2.4 × 5.4 m, 5.8 m aisle; class 2 2.5 m; class 3 2.6 m with 6.2 m aisle; class 3A 2.6 m with 6.6 m aisle (confirm against the current edition).
- Accessible spaces (AS/NZS 2890.6): 2.4 × 5.4 m bay plus a 2.4 m shared area, counted here as two bays each; numbers per NCC/planning ratio.
- Check sight lines at the access, ramp grades (AS/NZS 2890.1 Sec 2.5) and the queuing space for the entry.
