Method, formulas and assumptions
- Gabion unit weight γr(1 − n) = 26*(1-0.3) = 18.2 kN/m³
- Weight (trapezoid) = 18.2*3*(2.5+1.5)/2 = 109.2 kN/m
- Weight lever from toe (back face vertical, stepped front) = 2.5-(2.5^2+2.5*1.5+1.5^2)/(3*(2.5+1.5)) = 1.4792 m
- Ka = TAN(RADIANS(45-32/2))^2 = 0.30726
- Pa = 0.5Ka γ H² + Ka q H = 0.5*0.30726*18*3^2+0.30726*10*3 = 34.106 kN/m
- Overturning moment = 0.5*0.30726*18*3^2*3/3+0.30726*10*3*3/2 = 38.715 kNm/m
- FS overturning = 109.2*1.4792/38.715 = 4.1722
- FS sliding = 0.55*109.2/34.106 = 1.761
- Eccentricity Bb/2 − (W xw − Mo)/W = 2.5/2-(109.2*1.4792-38.715)/109.2 = 0.12536 m
- qmax = 109.2/2.5*(1+6*ABS(0.12536)/2.5) = 56.822 kPa
